BriefBrief History of H.H.The Prince Agakhan Hostel Dhandhuka
As per the the advice of Imam Sultan Mohammed Shah (The Aga Khan lll). Mr. Suleman Zaveri started H. H.The Prince Aga Khan Hostel, Dhandhuka in the year 1935 with 4 boarders in a rental place.
1935 to 1969- For 34 years Mr. Suleman Zaveri was the Honorary General Secretary of the Hostel.
1944- A well wisher purchased the land for the hostel.
1952- The hostel building was built by Mr Suleman Zaveri.
1953- The hostel got registered with the Charity Commissioner of Mumbai
1959 to 1969- Mr. K. S. Zaveri the son of Mr. Suleman Zaveri was a Trustee.
1969- onwards till date Mr. K.S.Zaveri is the Managing Trustee.
1962- With the help of some donation by Mr.Gulham Hussain Merchant the Industrial Hall was built.
1979- The hostel got registered in the state of Maharashtra with the Charity Commissioner of
Maharashtra.
1989- In the year 1989 Mr.K.S.Zaveri started an English medium school in the name of Dhandhuka English medium primary school in the hostel premises.
2000- In the year 2000 the new High School building was built with classes upto standard X and a play ground for children in the hostel premises.
ABOUT H.H THE PRINCE AGAKHAN HOSTEL DHANDHUKA:
Hostel admission is given to boys on priority to those who have no parents,or those having single parent and also for the needy. The Hostel provides various facilities to the boarders like lodging, boarding,education,educational tours,and special tutions etc.The hostel has a vast play ground for playing and sports activities like indoor as well as outdoor games like carrom,chess,cricket,volleyball and football etc.The hostel encourages the boarders to take part in various sports activities and are proud that the boarders win trophies,shield and certicates by participating at district and state level.The annual exam results of the boarders are excellent and the results are in the range of 90% to 100%.
Ex-StudentIt is worth mentioning at this juncture that dhandhuka hostels ex students have achieved and made their name in various fields. We take pride in saying that some have become chartered accounts, civil engineers, industrialist, businessman and so on .We also have some of our ex students on the board of trustees and currently working towards the betterment of the hostel. These students have further studied in India and aboard .This has been the proudest moment for any organisation

1. Mr. Amar Singh Choudhary-
Chief Minister of Gujarat state on 9th October 1998 I have been invited today to visit the Agakhan Hostel. I am happy to see that this hostel is having around 70 plus children staying in this hostel.The Trustees of this hostel have taken care to see that all the facilities are made available to the children.This hostel caters specially for children from below the poverty line.H.H.The Prince Agakhan is a well wisher to the Gujarat public.Through his Trust village development is done at many places in Gujarat.People of all caste are benefited,and I am also thankful.
2. Mr. Sanand Mehta-
Finanace,Labour and Education Minister of Gujarat state on 2nd September 1984. This is a surprise visit for me so I am taking this opportunity to visit the Agakhan Hostel.I am happy to see that the children are taken proper care off. I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Zaveri, Mr. Merchant and all other trustees for their kind support.
3. Mr. Natvarlal Shah-
Speaker of Gujarat State Assembly on 22nd October 1984. I have a dream that this Agakhan institute will one day or the other be a Techinal Institute with a very vast complex.I am today surprised to see that around 100 children are staying in the hostel,and all facilities like eating ,staying etc is available. I am also pleased with the care that the children are taken. I have no other words to say but to thank all the Trustees & representatives for all that they have done to bring up the children & the hostel.
